The branch of medicine devoted to the diagnosis and treatment of foot and ankle disorders, podiatry is the modern name for chiropody. Podiatric Surgeons are podiatrists who have undertaken a minimum of 11 years specialist training in order to perform foot and ankle surgery.

Training includes an undergraduate degree, a post graduate degree, extensive clinical practice, surgical training and supervised surgical practice.
